Telč Castle

The town of Telč is known for its magical atmosphere – it is not by chance that many fairy tales gave been filmed in the local château.

The Renaissance château, whose beauty is mirrored on the surface of Štěpnický pond, is undoubtedly the dominant feature of the town of Telč and is described as a jewel of Moravian Renaissance architecture.

Thanks to the meticulous approach of the owners, the original interiors have been preserved. The original Gothic château from the 14th century was rebuilt after 1550 and supplemented with buildings in the Renaissance style. Its core consisted of a palace and a chapel, built around today’s so-called Small Courtyard. The château includes fortifications and a moat. In the second half of the 16th century, the Telč château was the seat of Zacharias of Hradec, who had it rebuilt and expanded into a château. The Chapel of All Saints was added and a large park was built around the château, which is enriched by an arcade. This created a large representative Renaissance mansion.

The biggest attraction of the château are the Renaissance halls with wooden coffered ceilings from the 16th century. The preserved interior contains valuable furnishings and a collection of firearms from the 17th century.

During high season, you can visit the gallery with paintings by Czech painter Jan Zrzavý.

A major renovation is currently under way and will take several years, but the château will remain open throughout the 2019 tourist season.

Tips for trips

The town of Telč offers numerous options for recreation – forests, ponds and various trip options to the surrounding area that feature many interesting tourist attractions. You can go horse riding or rent a bike at the nearby bicycle rental and visit Roštejn Castle or Dačice Château, which are located about 8 km away.

If you prefer hiking, do not miss the beautiful view of the whole town from the Oslednice lookout tower.

Golf lovers will be delighted by the 18-hole golf course (www.golf-telc.cz), to which the hotel provides a free shuttle service.

In winter, sports enthusiasts will appreciate the Mrákotín ski lift, located 6 km away.

Guests with children can also visit the aquapark, 14 km from the hotel.
